Abstract
This article is a continuation of other studies that have analyzed the Spanish security and defence policy during the crisis that began in 2008. Thus, in this essay, we will specifically examine the security and defence policy followed by the new conservative administration presided by Mariano Rajoy after the general elections held in Spain in November 2011. Nevertheless, this essay also addresses other issues not directly related to this public policy of Rajoy's government, such as the hypothetical resurrection of praetorianism and the attitude of the public opinion towards the Armed Forces. In conclusion, we still think that modernity and postmodernity or, in less academic words, the old and the new come together in the Spanish armies of the second decade of the 21st century.
